The drawings arise mainly from improvisation: a game of action and reaction between the artistic decision, its error and its inevitable influence on all decisions that follow. Every sketch is lapsed, instead the motifs evolve from an abstract background to a miniature stage, gradually filling with a small, motionless spectacle. Underlying all of this is a fascination with the drawn line and the paper that carries it - whether constructed with experienced precision or torn into with a clenched child's hand.
