Lev Khesin's solo exhibition BIOS is an impressive demonstration of how art and technology can merge. In his work with silicone, a material that he sees as more than just an industrial substance, Khesin explores the fine boundaries between the organic and the inorganic. This boundary is intriguingly blurred in the exhibition by applying the silicone in layers that look like living organisms.
The concept of BIOS combines the meanings of “life” from ancient Greek and the IT term “basic input/output system”, creating a link between biological processes and the foundations of the digital world. Khesin's works literally grow on the panel, similar to tissue on a skeleton, and the targeted use of light and color creates a lively dynamic. Depending on the incidence of light and viewing angle, the works always appear different, giving them a deep, organic quality.
Khesin's working process, a balancing act between control and chance, is reflected in the visual impact of his art. It deliberately plays with the duality of attraction and repulsion and invites viewers to explore the boundaries between art and life, order and chaos in a new way. The BIOS exhibition thus becomes a vivid experience that delves deep into the fundamental processes of life and perception.
