Texts

The artist Lennart Grau (*1981 in Krefeld), who lives in Berlin, completed his studies of fine arts as a master student of Prof. Leiko Ikemura in 2012 at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Lennart Graus' artistic focus lies in the classical medium of painting. His innovative use of colour finds a fascinating counterpoint through artistic references to the lightness and effortlessness of rococo.

In terms of content, the artist is inspired by provocatively aestheticized quotations. Angels, classical still lifes and epic stagings serve as perfect models, but are distorted in their representation. In addition, no identification is possible, since the figures shown appear faceless. On the surface, the colours are not only a means to an end, but they also address the tension between their materiality and illusion, embedded in enchanting scenes.

With regard to his own work, Grau himself says: "I always like to be seduced by beautiful facades, which, because of their superficial aesthetics, immediately make me doubt".
