Mike MacKeldey

"Ich werf die Baggermatsch in's Gesicht"

August 30th - November 5th 2013
Opening reception for the artist:
Friday, August 30th, from 6pm to 10 pm

Mike MacKeldey deals time and again in his solo works with the portrait (alongside his ongoing work with Ellen DeElaine). The face, often almost photorealistic in appearance, is at the same time alienated from us in two different respects. The impasto applied paint is smudged and the – still rather mellow work – painted over with texts or drawings intuitively conceived that interact with the work in an ironic way.

Mike MacKeldey was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1973. In 1998, he received the “Award of Creativity, Darmstadt” and in 2004 he was awarded the “Kunstpreis 1822 Frankfurt am Main”. In addition to solo exhibitions in many renowned galleries including the Galerie Stephane Simoens Contemporary Fine Art in Knokke-Zoute, Belgium, MacKeldey’s works have also been featured in various group exhibitions. Just some worthy of particular note include the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Deurle, Belgium, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen, K20, in Dusseldorf, Germany and the Villa de Bank in Enschede, the Netherlands. From 14th September onwards, the Galerie Supper in Baden-Baden will be showing works by Mike MacKeldey, Arnulf Rainer and Markus Lüpertz under the title “Bildstörungen” (Image Interferences).
